Springtime Pysanky Egg Workshop

2 hr 30 min
45 US dollars
East Cooke Road

The origin of Pysanky is believed to have been with Cucuteni–Trypillia culture of Eastern Europe over 5,000 years ago. The giving of decorated eggs in European cultures has continued to this day. In this class, you will receive a brief history of the art of Ukrainian Easter Eggs or Pysanky, an overview of the wax resist process, instruction in design and hands-on egg writing. We will explore traditional and modern designs using two or three colors. You will be writing TWO eggs to take home with you! This class teaches one of the many ways to create and write Pysanky or Ukrainian Easter Eggs. It’s helpful to have experience with egg crafting or the wax resist process, but not required. All are welcome. NOTE: Click on the "Register Now" button, and then click "Check Next Availability" (or scroll through calendar) to choose the class TIME you wish to enroll in: > Friday, March 27 at 6:30-9:00 PM --- OR --- > Saturday, March 28 at 9:00-11:30 AM Class size is strictly LIMITED to 12 students. You'll be working with color dyes, bees wax, and open flames; please dress accordingly and tie back long hair. This class is not appropriate for children. This class often sells out quickly! Please register ASAP to avoid disappointment. Interested in a different Pysanky technique? Denise is offering a VINEGAR ETCH PYSANKY class on Saturday, March 28, at 1:00-3:30 PM. INSTRUCTOR: Denise Beno has always been fascinated by Faberge eggs and Ukrainian egg art and was naturally drawn to this art form. She attributes this to her Eastern European ancestral roots. While Denise was a poultry farmer, she picked up a basic pysanka kit and taught herself the craft of Pysanky. She has been crafting eggs for almost 20 years, typically gifting them to family and loved ones. You can purchase her eggs and other artwork at www.Etsy.com/shop/thepeaceturtle/.
