Seedlings in Pots
Welcome to the Columbus Garden School

At the Columbus Garden School, we believe gardening helps us reconnect with things that matter. We believe that putting our hands in the dirt slows us down and reunites us with our essential nature. We believe in the transformative power of sunshine, pollinators, soil microbes, and of growing the plants that nourish us, body and soul.

At CGS, we inspire and nurture that gardening spirit — one person, one yard, and one neighborhood at a time — by offering fun, practical classes and by using eco-friendly gardening methods.

  • Our classes span a spectrum of gardening and homesteading topics. From starting seeds to creating compost, we give students the science-based knowledge and tools to live in a more sustainable, eco-friendly, and self-sufficient way.

  • We offer everything from one-hour workshops to multi-month, skill-building courses in a large, comfortable classroom. Some of our classes are free.

  • We have a large DIY demonstration garden where students can get their hands dirty!
And we're adding more native trees, shrubs, and prairie plants to our 2-acre property every day.

  • Located on Cooke Road near I-71, we offer practical education at a variety of convenient times, days, and prices. Most classes are limited to 6-12 students.

Learn skills that last a lifetime while having fun! Our goal is to be the garden school most admired for our students, our instructors, and for our commitment to gardens and the natural environment in central Ohio. Join us!

We are better together -- take a class with CGS!

We feature SMALL in-person classes. Our classroom is beautifully ventilated with six large windows, new French doors, AND a ceiling fan. We’ll continue to use Zoom for some classes, but we hope you’ll join us for the fun and friendship that comes from taking a class together in-person.

We recommend that ALL students, regardless of vaccination status, wear a face mask during INDOOR classes when COVID and flu cases are high in Franklin County. Recent variants are highly transmissible, and CGS respects the recommendations of smarty-pants scientists who know much more about it than we do.

We’ve ALL been affected by the social and economic upheaval of the past few years. Let's find ways we can safely gather and enjoy life again!
