PRUNING Trees & Shrubs (PART 1 - online)
Join us for an overview of basic pruning tools and techniques that apply to 80% of the woody plants in your yard. Learn how to successfully trim a variety of shrubs and small trees including lilacs, hydrangeas, roses, Japanese maples, and hedge plants like boxwood and yew. Learn the correct methods of controlling plant size, health, and integrity through selective shaping and thinning of branch structure. Late winter is dormant pruning time – THIS YEAR, be ready to tackle the task in a knowledgeable and confident way! This section of the class (PART 1) will be held via Zoom. During this affordable, interactive ONLINE class, be sure to get your questions answered! This is a "live" class and will not be recorded. Upon registration, you'll receive a link to connect to the class via Zoom. 2026 Pruning Part 1 classes - choose your desired day/time in registration. (This is ONE class, offered 4 times, and you are welcomed to repeat it): > Sat. Jan. 31 at 10:00-11:30 AM > Tues. Feb. 10 at 6:30-8:00 PM > Sun. Feb. 22 at 4:00-5:30 PM > Thurs. March 12 at 6:30-8:00 PM NOTE A: If you want hands-on pruning practice, then sign up for Pruning PART 2! We'll work on designated trees and shrubs at the two-acre property of the Columbus Garden School. Please note that completing Part 1 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for Part 2. We will NOT review the information from Part 1. ** NOTE B: We also offer an Advanced Pruning Workshop. See class description for details. Dormant-season pruning classes END when the weather warms up -- usually mid-March. Don't miss this seasonal opportunity to make your landscape healthy and vibrant! INSTRUCTOR: Tisa Watts is the founder of the Columbus Garden School. She's a landscape designer, garden educator, and public speaker with a degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design. In addition, she professionally prunes high-value trees and shrubs for select clients from January - March. Tisa believes everyone can learn the skills to become a better pruner and landscape steward!
