POST-PLANT SALE ... PLANT SALE! Our big spring sale is now over, and we have a few remaining plants we'd like to sell ASAP. Prices have dropped a bit so these plants will find new homes before the summer heat hits. Come and get them!
Each year, CGS grows four-packs of native tall-grass prairie plants to help you build your Ohio pollinator habitat. Our plants are healthy and vigorous, and you won't find a better price for this combination! And each year that you shop the CGS Prairie 4-Pack plant sale, your own garden grows in biodiversity and beauty.
Each 4-pack contains ONE species of a plant you choose. You can combine multiple 4-packs in one order. Mix-and-match your own prairie from the 7 plants below!
- Spotted Bee Balm (Monarda punctata) 24”H. Also called dotted horsemint, THIS is a monarda worth noticing! Drought-tolerant and highly attractive to pollinators. Flowers are pale purple and pink. Blooms July/Aug/Sept.
- Prairie Sundrops (Oenothera pilosella) 24”H. Droves of long-tongued bees, butterflies, and skippers are drawn to the prolific pollen these plants produce. Sundrops prefer moist soils and near full sun but can tolerate periods of drought and light shade. Blooms May/June.
- Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) 48”H. This plant has it all: adaptability to sun and soil, deer-resistance, bee-and-butterfly magnet, and COLOR. And when she’s happy in her spot, she’s HAPPY. Blooms July/Aug/Sept.
- Rose/Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) 48”H. A more refined, clump-forming milkweed with rosy pink blossoms. A Monarch and Swallowtail favorite with a vanilla fragrance! Blooms June/July/Aug.
- Tall Ironweed (Vernonia gigantea) to 5’H. A member of the Sunflower family, ironweed has showy bright magenta flowers. Prefers damp soil conditions and full sun exposure. This plant spreads by rhizomes to form clumps. It serves as a late-season nectar source. Blooms Aug/Sept/Oct.
- Wild Quinine (Parthenium integrifolium) Typically found in dry areas of prairies and open woods, the white, cauliflower-looking flowers attract bees, wasps, flies, and beetles. Grows best in full sun. A great plant for a mixed bed, you’ll find plenty of it growing at CGS! Lightly fragrant to 48”H. Blooms June through September. SPECIAL PRICE $10 per 4-pack!
- Clustered Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) 36”H. This mint plant HUMS with bees when in bloom. Soft gray-green foliage makes this a beautiful border/background plant that makes other colors POP. Blooms July/Aug/Sept.
Each Prairie 4-Pack is $15
