Poppy Mallow (Callirhoe bushii, see garden photo). I grew this plant from seed about 3 years ago, stuck some in a corner of the demo garden, and forgot about it. While weeding this spring I thought to myself, Huh, what the heck is THIS? I put some roots into an empty bed to see what would happen. Voila! Apparently grows to 24"H, full or part-sun, and thrives on forgetfulness. Adds a note of surprise in a mixed border and a true Midwest native perennial.
