We have three herbs for sale in September:
LEMON BALM (Melissa officinalis). Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Plants like full sun in Ohio; plants adapt to a wide range of soils except constantly wet. It smells divine when crushed in your hands and it flavors a pitcher of water beautifully. Known for its calming effects and as a digestive aid. Can grow 12-24" if not trimmed.
CULINARY THYME (Thymus vulgaris). Culinary thyme is a hardy perennial that is nearly evergreen in most gardening zones. It is drought-tolerant and pollinator-friendly. Plant in full sun and water only as needed once established. We use it to season food and medicinally to treat nasal congestion. Grows 6-12"H.
TULSI or HOLY BASIL (Ocimum tenuiflorum) 12-24”H. Native to tropical regions, tulsi is not a perennial in our climate but if you let this plant go to seed – you’ll have new plants by next June. Smells and tastes light and fresh and herbal. Used as a culinary and medicinal herb, and makes a soothing tea.
We grow multiple patches of tulsi, thyme, and lemon balm at CGS as weed-choking groundcovers and deer deterrent. All three of these herbs are in the mint family -- but are very different from each other!
END-OF-SEASON SPECIAL: Each 4-inch herb is just $4.
