* We made a mistake ... actually, we think our seed supplier got some incorrectly labeled seeds. What we thought was American Bellflower now appears to be Clustered Bellflower (Campanula glomerata), a lovely cousin that is NOT native to the Americas. According to Wikipedia, "The species is native to the North Temperate Zone of Eurasia, from Britain to Japan ... [In] North America the plant is naturalized. This plant can be found in forests or dry grasslands, in scrub and open woodland, in grassy but not too wet places, in the edges of woods and along the margins of roads and trails. It prefers calcareous soils." In other words, this perennial plant may not be from here but it sure likes it here.
Grows 8-20"H and spreads vigorously. Eye-popping purple flower clusters appear in late May and may continue sporadically all summer. It thrives in some of the hottest, driest parts of our yard at CGS. Our plants have been untouched by deer or rabbits.
If you purchased this plant from us under the name "American Bellflower" and would like a refund, just bring us your plant. Please accept our sincere apologies; we try to ensure everything we sell is accurately labeled.
