Rose Hibiscus (Hibiscus laevis) 60”H. The 3-6"W flowers are light pink and darken toward the center. This mallow prefers sunny, wetter areas, where it is slow to develop in spring but grows and blooms dramatically in the heat of summer. Its thick stems transfer nutrients from a massive rootstock. Blooms July/August/September. 
 
PURPLE yarrow (Achillea millefolium) 10-14”H. A hardy, drought-tolerant, and versatile perennial known for its fern-like foliage and flat-topped clusters of white flowers. Full sun and average soil. The purple/magenta yarrow is an A. millefolium cultivar that does not reseed but is still attractive to pollinators. Blooms spring through fall. Smaller container $6 each.
 
Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium sp. probably E. fistulosum or E. maculatum) to 72”H. Prefers full-to-partial sun and wet-to-medium soil conditions. The flowers are visited by many kinds of bees, butterflies, skippers, and moths. Blooms JulyAug/Sept. 
 
Early/Oxeye Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides) 48-60”H. Impossibly tough, you’ll find this plant growing in many places at CGS. It blooms profusely through the summer on thin stems above the foliage. Blooms June/July/Aug/Sept. 
 
Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa) 24”H. The vivid orange color, low mounded profile, and ability to attract and sustain butterflies (including monarchs) make this plant a well-known landscape favorite for all types of gardens. Needs full sun in a well-drained area. Blooms June/July/Aug. SOLD OUT
 
Tall Ironweed (Vernonia gigantea) to 5’H. A member of the Sunflower family, ironweed has showy dark magenta-purple flowers. Prefers damp soil conditions and full sun exposure. This plant spreads by rhizomes to form clumps. It serves as a late-season nectar source. Blooms Aug/Sept/Oct. 
 
Wild Quinine (Parthenium integrifolium) 48”H. Typically found in dry areas of prairies and open woods, the white, cauliflower-looking flowers attract bees, wasps, flies, and beetles. Grows best in full sun. A great plant for a mixed bed, you’ll find plenty of it at CGS! Blooms June through September. 
 
Shrubby St. John's Wort (Hypericum prolificum) to 48”H. Bushy yellow flowers are an absolute bee magnet and is not picky about its sun and soil needs. Deer- and rabbit-resistant. Blooms July/Aug/Sept. ALMOST SOLD OUT
 
Clustered Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) 36”H. This mint plant HUMS with bees when in bloom. Soft gray-green foliage makes this a beautiful border/background plant that makes other colors POP. Blooms July/Aug/Sept. 
 
Prairie Sundrops (Oenothera pilosella) 24”H. Droves of long-tongued bees, butterflies, and skippers are drawn to the prolific pollen these plants produce. Sundrops prefer moist soils and near full sun but can tolerate periods of drought and light shade. It spreads semi-aggressively and forms dense mats, but can be removed easily because of its shallow roots. Blooms May/June.
 
Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium) 24"H. Enjoy blooms well into late autumn! The stiff stems will branch out slowly to create a bush-like appearance and will be completely covered in light purple flowers when blooming. The flowers will turn reddish purple as they mature. Despite the name, the flowers have no aroma, but the leaves do when crushed. Blooms Aug/Sept/Oct. SOLD OUT
