Sign up for a hands-on session working the hives with Dave Noble. Spend 1-1/2 hours with the bees onsite at the Columbus Garden School. Learn the appropriate manner and habits of spending time around bees to keep both you AND the bees calm and happy! 4/17 Varroa Mites: Monitoring and Management (2:30-4pm ) Learn how to to perform an alcohol wash to determine your mite levels. An accurate picture of mite levels will guide your decisions about treatment or other interventions, as needed. NOTE: Taking the associated Zoom class is not a prerequisite but it is HIGHLY recommended, as there will little to no review of the information covered during the onsite classes. The focus will be on practical field experience. Students from any of Dave’s previous classes are invited to enroll. All in-person classes are strictly limited to 8 students and must follow COVID precautions for safety. Instructor will provide beekeeping hats, veils, and gloves but you are welcome to use your own items. Please wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toe shoes, and be prepared for variable weather. The Columbus Garden School is located at 1350 E. Cooke Road, Columbus OH 43224. We'll meet in the parking lot. INSTRUCTOR: Dave Noble began his professional beekeeping career at OSU's Honey Bee Research Lab in the mid-1990’s. More recently, he spent 7 years as the staff apiarist at Stratford Ecological Center in Delaware, OH. During his tenure there, Dave developed wildly popular beekeeper training programs for both novice and veteran beekeepers. Currently, Dave operates Red Beard Bees where he continues to develop, refine, and teach his beekeeper training programs and presentations across Ohio and the nation.
