Are you a gardener who wants to deepen your knowledge of tree physiology and plant care? In this 2-hour intensive class, we’ll discuss the techniques and strategies behind successfully pruning a wide variety of woody shrubs and small trees in the residential landscape. Topics include: > typical woody plant structure, defenses, and growth (including nutrient flow) > the science behind wounding and healing of plant tissues > seasonal energy cycles > pruning considerations for certain plant species > aesthetic issues of pruning > tool selection and maintenance BONUS: We’ve updated this class to include a section on seasonal FRUIT TREE care (including apples, pears, and stone fruit such as cherries and peaches). Learn how to select and prune your trees for maximum fruit production and to reduce maintenance chores. While this is a more advanced workshop, beginners are welcomed! The class is divided between classroom time and demonstration of correct pruning techniques by the instructors. Bring your hand pruning shears (and small pruning saw, if you have one) to class if you'd like the instructors to inspect them.
