THIS ONLINE CLASS IS BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Did you know Ohio has a state native fruit? Have you heard a song about picking pawpaws and putting them in a basket? This one-hour ONLINE class will introduce you to Ohio’s “forgotten fruit tree,” the amazing PAWPAW! Learn about the history and habitat of this delicious, nutritious fruit. Some describe the flavor as a cross between mangoes, bananas, and melon. Discover the link between this Midwest native tree and the exotic Zebra Swallowtail butterfly. (Hint: one won't survive without the other.) Propagating Asimina triloba (Latin for pawpaws) for fun and profit isn't difficult -- but you must follow a few peculiar rules for success. Your instructor has successfully grown and sold pawpaw tree seedlings for years and will share her secrets with you. Join Sharon as she shares her enthusiasm for this wonderful tree, and maybe you'll become an pawpaw fanatic yourself! *** SPECIAL CLASS BONUS: The FIRST 10 registered students will receive a FREE pawpaw seedling! All others can purchase healthy, vigorous seedlings from Sharon at the following prices: 1 seedling = $12 each 2+ seedlings = $10 each ** Seedlings will be available during our Fall Garden Sale (at the Columbus Garden School) on Sunday, Sept. 10 between 1-4 pm. Pickup in Hilliard may be available by appointment. ** SPECIAL NOTE: The Ohio Pawpaw Festival takes place the following weekend (9/15-17). Take this class, buy some seedlings, and be prepared to rock the festival in 2023! (https://ohiopawpawfest.com/) Make this the year YOU become a pawpaw fanatic. INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Maish and her husband, Greg own Maish Meadow Farm & Preserve, a 62-acre farm in Madison Mills, Ohio. 30-acres of the farm is dedicated to managed Ohio wetland and prairie, and they offer educational tours there. They also use regenerative farming practices and rotational grazing, keeping cows, pigs, turkeys and chickens. Not only is Sharon a pawpaw fanatic, she also teaches our popular backyard chicken keeping classes. She's bred and raised over 35 different breeds of chickens. She breeds Narragansett turkeys, and Speckled Sussex chickens.
