JUMP-START YOUR GARDENING EDUCATION by taking an intensive, hands-on class at the Columbus Garden School. Learn how to create great soil, grow healthy plants, deal with plant pests and diseases, banish weeds, and feel rewarded for your efforts! OUR 5-MONTH-LONG WORKSHOP (May to September) formally meets twice a month -- and informally whenever the school is open. You’ll work your own small raised-bed plot inside the demonstration garden; class size is therefore limited to FOUR (4) students. The school provides tools, fertilizer, and irrigation. You choose the plants you want to grow. All edibles grown at the Columbus Garden School follow organic practices. Our class meets one Saturday morning and one Monday evening each month (11 classes, dates below). Each class session runs for approx. 2 hours and includes a short presentation, handouts, demonstrations, and plenty of time in the garden. You’ll take home everything you grow - vegetables, herbs, flowers, and more! TOPICS INCLUDE: Soil - how to evaluate and improve garden soil Choosing the best plant varieties. How to interpret plant tags and seed packets Watering plants - how to keep it simple Weeding 101 - never be overwhelmed again Fertilizer and pesticide basics (and alternatives) Crop rotation Plant pollination Composting 101 - let it rot Tips and tricks for simplifying your garden tasks CLASS DATES are Mondays (6-8 pm) and Saturdays (9-11 am) on May 9, 21, 30; June 18, 27; July 9, 11; Aug. 1, 13, 22; and Sept. 10. Bad weather can cause some minor rescheduling. YOUR INSTRUCTOR: Tisa Watts is the owner of the Columbus Garden School, a gardening instructor, and a popular public speaker with 20+ years of professional experience.
