The biggest gardening myth in Ohio is that growing food stops when the cold weather comes! The gardening season doesn’t have to end with the cold weather. This class is a beginner level class designed for new and intermediate gardeners who want to continue to grow fresh, organic food well into the colder months. Students learn how to effectively use season-extension techniques to continue to grow and harvest food year round. Those who join us for this class will learn the basics of: > What season extension is and how it works > Choosing plants for season extension > What to seed & plant now to continue growing into the winter > Types of season-extension techniques and the different materials you can use > How to decide what season-extension techniques are best for your garden and budget > Where to source season-extension equipment and fall crops/seeds > Tips & tricks for gardening in the fall and winter Students who attend this class will also receive a complimentary copy of our full-season planting guide (a favorite of our clients'!) and a discount code for additional services through Columbus Foodscapes. ***Instructor may have additional materials used for demonstration available for purchase in class.*** INSTRUCTOR: Katie Carey is a certified Master Gardener, Master Urban Farmer, and Garden Educator on a mission to support her community in edible gardening. Katie is a Columbus-Native who fell in love with growing food in her late teens. She’s worked at a variety of urban and rural farms, both in Ohio and internationally, and has tended her own “foodscape” for over 5 years. She started Columbus Foodscapes after seeing how many of her community members desperately wanted to garden, but came back from their local garden centers with their heads spinning. Her life’s work is to help her community grow their own fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables close to home, in any space, and at any level of experience.
