The Theory and Practice of Garden-Making This five-part series examines the why and how of five garden themes. We will explore these gardens through the lens of ethics, design principles, garden history, and the practical aspects – plant selection, hardscape creation, and more – of creating each garden style. Design 5 – The Forest Garden Forest Gardens are sustainable, functional food systems that are created with nature in mind. These layered gardens, which integrate fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, and perennial vegetables, have become an important design type in the Permaculture approach to garden-making. It is a different way of thinking about gardens and landscape. BONUS: Each class is $30, but if you sign up for 2+ classes at the SAME TIME, each class is then $25! Class is held in a well-ventilated room and is strictly limited to 10 attendees. Debra's classes fill quickly; please register ASAP to avoid disappointment! INSTRUCTOR: Known as “The Garden Sage”, Debra Knapke is passionate about gardening, sustainable garden design and the natural world, and enjoys sharing knowledge through her writing, public speaking, and garden consulting in the private and public sectors. She has served on various local and national committees and boards that focus on education, the environment, and sustainability. In addition, she has mentored the future of the landscape industry at Columbus State Community College for 24 years. She loves being a gardener and has packed an amazing variety of perennials, trees, shrubs, and edibles onto the 2/3-acre lot surrounding her home.
