SO YOU WANT TO DESIGN A GARDEN. It sounds like a good idea, but HOW do you start? What do you need to know? This ONLINE class is a design primer that will summarize the design process, introduce soil basics, outline ecological aspects of the garden, and show how we can create beautiful, functional spaces. This informative class is geared towards gardeners, landscape designers, or anyone who wants to better understand -- and implement -- intelligent design relationships in their outdoor environment. Perhaps you're interested in making a few backyard improvements, or you're preparing to pay a landscape crew to make changes, and you want to be more knowledgeable. Maybe you're interested in landscape design as a career. Come ready to take notes, ask questions, and see how a professional garden designer approaches the challenge of creating an inspired landscape! NOTE: You can continue your design experience by working IN PERSON with Debra! The in-person, hands-on design class is limited to 8 students and takes place at the Columbus Garden School. This online Garden Design class is a PREREQUISITE for the in-person class. Known as “The Garden Sage”, Debra is passionate about gardening, sustainable garden design and the natural world, and enjoys sharing knowledge through her writing, public speaking, and garden consulting in the private and public sectors. She has served on various local and national committees and boards that focus on education, the environment, and sustainability. In addition, she has mentored the future of the landscape industry at Columbus State Community College for 24 years. She loves being a gardener and has packed an amazing variety of perennials, trees, shrubs, and edibles onto the 2/3-acre lot surrounding her home.
