Eco-Print and Shibori with Natural Dyes

Starts Sep 15
75 US dollars
East Cooke Road

Color Burst: Eco-Print and Shibori with Natural Dyes Join us for a hands-on class that explores color, experimentation, and joy as we harvest and use natural dyes from the garden. Learn about mordants (how to fix the color for longer), and create one-of-a-kind pieces to wear and make with. We will work with reds from madder and cochineal, blues from indigo (we will learn how to make a vat dye), and all the other yellows, greens, and tans from flowers we pick. This class is for people who are beginners or have taken a class before but want to learn enough that they can really do it on their own. We will cover: · Scouring · Mordanting · Dyeing · Shibori techniques · Ecoprinting techniques This fall we are expanding our natural dye class to 5 hours so that we have time to learn how to mordant our fabric ahead of dyeing. We will be spending five delightful hours on Sunday, September 15th, making mordant baths, and then dyeing silk and cotton with a rainbow of colors from flowers, leaves, and insects. There will be a break for lunch. Each person will receive a variety of silks and cotton items to dye. Wear old cloths as dyes will stain! Please tie back long hair and wear closed-toed shoes. We will be working in a covered area as well as outdoors. Also: bring a small sewing kit if you have one. Materials $25 + class fee $50 = $75 Sign up as soon as possible because spots are limited. If you miss out this time we are sure to do it again next year. :) Please reach out to celiakahle@gmail.com if you have questions.
