If you've ever oogled at beautiful raised bed garden photos on Instagram or Pinterest, and feel ready to start your own, this class is for you! Raised beds are the preferred method for expert and beginner kitchen garden growers alike. They are beautiful, grow so much in one space, and often lead to healthier and more productive plants. Led by local Kitchen Garden designer Katie Carey and builder Joseph Howe of Columbus Foodscapes, this class will teach you how to create a beautiful raised bed kitchen garden design from scratch, including how to: > create a base map of your garden space > decide how large to make your new garden > selecting materials that fit your aesthetic and budget > create the ideal spacing and layout for your specific space and goals > select specific raised bed styles, materials, and designs that will best fit your project > source materials like gravel, soil, wood locally > build the classic Columbus Foodscapes cedar raised bed, step-by-step, to ensure your beds will withstand the pressure of time and weather, and last for many years to come > use basic power tools needed for building raised beds AND much, much more. All students will leave class with tons of garden inspiration, a workbook to take home so they can start designing, and a clear idea of how to assemble their dream garden plans. This is a whopper of a class, but very detailed, and you’ll leave feeling confident about designing and installing your dream garden that you’ll absolutely love! ***An important note: while we do touch on planting your garden briefly, we do not cover in any detail how to plan or plant your raised bed garden once it’s installed -- there’s just too much to cover in one class! Once your garden is built and installed, you can take our Plan & Plan an Organic Vegetable Garden class to get started with planting and planning.*** In light of COVID-19, attendees are required to wear a face mask during the indoor portions of this class. Class size is strictly limited to 12 students. INSTRUCTOR: Katie Carey is a certified Master Gardener, Master Urban Farmer, and Garden Educator on a mission to support her community in edible gardening. She’s worked at a variety of urban and rural farms, both in Ohio and internationally. She started Columbus Foodscapes to help her community grow their own fresh, delicious fruits and vegetables close to home, in any space, and at any level of experience.
