Best Evergreens for Landscapes (online)
Available spots.
Evergreens are more than just pretty – there are practical reasons for having some evergreens in your yard. They add year-round privacy, quiet space, and wildlife habitat. Once established in the residential landscape, many evergreen trees and shrubs are tough, low maintenance, and live for decades. There's lots more than just pine, spruce, boxwood, and yew. Drawing on her years of experience working at Oakland Nursery, Cat will discuss the best evergreen trees, shrubs, and ground covers for Central Ohio's soil and climate conditions. Whether you have full sun or part shade, dry or soggy soil, or whether you prefer needles, “ferny”, or broadleaf -- there’s an evergreen for almost every situation! Cat provides numerous photos and a handout of her top picks during this ONLINE class. Her recommendations also reflect her love of native, deer-resistant plants, too. BONUS (sort of) - We'll have an update on the myriad problems plaguing boxwoods over the past few years, along with suggestions for treatment, replacement, etc. INSTRUCTOR: Cat Baumgartner is an ISA Certified Arborist, an Ohio Certified Nursery Technician, and an Oakland Nursery staff member. She’s mostly a “self-taught” gardener who began when she was five years old and had a "weed garden" behind the garage (banished to that humble spot by a family who didn’t share her appreciation of the beautiful plants she grew).
