Dreaming of having delightful and quirky backyard chickens? Do you want a sustainable supply of delicious, fresh eggs from your own backyard? During this two-part ONLINE class, you'll receive detailed information on how to make your dreams a reality! Instructor Sharon Maish will make sure you're prepared for this endeavor. If you're serious about keeping chickens, do it the RIGHT way. Come and learn everything you need to know about raising happy, healthy hens in our sometimes challenging Midwest climate. Class Topics: > Am I ready? What is involved in chicken keeping? > Living space requirements (coop and run) and hen "enrichment" > Choosing breeds - and numbers - that are right for you > Basic small chick care > Laying boxes > Nutrition and feeding of laying hens > Hen behavior and the pecking order > Laying behavior, seasons, and light effects on laying This *live* online class is presented via Zoom from Sharon’s homestead. She'll introduce you to some of her hens, and she'll have just-hatched chicks to see! We'll have lots of time for your Q&A, too. We'll have several "meet-greet-and-treat" events with her friendly hens here at CGS in Columbus. INSTRUCTOR: Sharon Maish and her husband Greg own a 62-acre farm south of Columbus, Ohio. They raise much of their own food, keeping poultry, pigs, and beef cattle. Sharon breeds show-quality speckled Sussex chickens and Narragansett turkeys, and has raised 40+ breeds of chickens over the years. She was an ODA-registered feed manufacturer, and makes feed for all their livestock.
