Starts Mar 8
75 US dollars
East Cooke Road

Available spots.

Are you a gardener who wants to DEEPEN your knowledge of tree physiology and plant care? In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll discuss the techniques and strategies behind successfully pruning a wide variety of woody shrubs and small trees in the residential landscape. You'll understand the reasoning behind every cut you make. TOPICS INCLUDE: > typical woody plant structure, defenses, and growth (including nutrient flow) > the science behind wounding and healing of plant tissues > seasonal energy cycles > pruning considerations for certain plant species > aesthetic issues of pruning > tool selection and maintenance The class is divided between classroom time and field demonstration/hands-on practice of pruning techniques. Bring your hand pruning shears (and small pruning saw, if you have one) to class with you; we'll have extras for students, if needed. JOIN US for this in-depth, educational look at how to help your trees and woody shrubs live their BEST -- and most beautiful -- lives. ** HOW IS THIS WORKSHOP DIFFERENT from Pruning 1 & Pruning 2 offered at the Columbus Garden School? In this workshop, two experienced instructors share a broader and more in-depth look at plant physiology, pruning techniques and tools, and the science of plant wounding and healing. Some students just want the overview of information shared in the more affordable but less comprehensive Part 1 and 2 classes. THIS WORKSHOP is for gardeners and landscape professionals looking for advanced explanations and techniques to develop and maintain healthy landscape trees and shrubs. Class size strictly limited to 12 students for maximum HANDS-ON experience. Class takes place at the Columbus Garden School, 1350 E. Cooke Road, Columbus OH 43224. Please dress appropriately for the weather - rain, snow, or shine. INSTRUCTORS: > CAT BAUMGARTNER is an ISA Certified Arborist, an Ohio Certified Nursery Technician, and was a long-time Oakland Nursery staff member. She teaches several popular classes at CGS including "Best Evergreens for Midwest Landscapes" and "Plants for Shade Gardens". > TISA WATTS is the founder of the Columbus Garden School. She's a landscape designer, garden educator, and public speaker with a degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design. She professionally prunes high-value trees and shrubs for select Columbus clients January - March.
