Each year, CGS grows four-packs of native tall-grass prairie plants to help you build your Ohio pollinator habitat. Our plants are healthy and vigorous, and you won't find a better price for this combination! And each year that you shop the CGS Prairie 4-Pack plant sale, your own garden grows in biodiversity and beauty.
Each 4-pack contains ONE species of a plant you choose. You can combine multiple 4-packs in one order. Mix-and-match your own prairie from the 7 plants below!
- Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata) 60”H. The crowning spikes of blossoms give a candelabra-like appearance to this graceful plant. It self-seeds readily and attracts many small mammals and birds. Welcomes full to partial-sun and variable soil types. Blooms July/Aug/Sept.
- Yellow Coneflower (Ratibida pinnata) to 60”H. Many insects are attracted to this plant such as butterflies and bees. It grows and transplants very easily, is drought-tolerant, and makes an excellent cut flower. Yellow Coneflower grows best in full sun to partial shade, and medium to dry-medium soil conditions. Blooms July/Aug/Sept.
- Mountain Mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) 36"HA clump forming, aromatic perennial that naturally occurs in most of the Eastern half of the United States. From mid to late summer the foliage is adorned by clusters of small pinkish white flowers that will attract a multitude of pollinators! Blooms in July/August/September.
- Blue Sage (Salvia azurea) 60”H. Gorgeous sky-blue blossoms provide a welcome punch of cool color to the summer garden. Tall and deer-resistant. Blooms Aug/Sept/Oct.
- Sweet Goldenrod (Solidago odora) 36”H. Clump-forming and makes a nice fall addition to any dry, or even sandy, garden. Also called Anise Scented Goldenrod, the nice-smelling leaves and dried yellow flowers make a great tea. Deer-resistant. Blooms Aug/Sept.
- Early (Oxeye) Sunflower (Heliopsis helianthoides) 48-60”H. Impossibly tough, you’ll find this plant growing in many places at CGS. It blooms profusely through the summer on thin stems above the foliage. Blooms June/July/Aug/Sept.
Hairy Beardtongue (Penstemon hirsutus) 18”H. Clusters of trumpet-shaped flowers attract many pollinators. The blossoms range from pale purples and blues to white. The long, thin blooms have a protruding, hairy lower lip that evokes the species’ common name. Blooms May/June.
