Each plant + hypertufa pot is a unique combination! And what a lucky combination it is: these plants and pots have a special affinity for each other.
The pots are made from hypertufa, a man-made concrete derived from Portland cement, peat moss, and perlite (sometime vermiculite). Individual pots may also contain sand, colorant, and miscellaneous natural items -- depending on the artist’s whim that day. All pots have been thoroughly cured and leached of excess alkalinity before planting. Among their many excellent qualities, items made from hypertufa are very tough and long-lasting.
The plants chosen for these containers (usually succulents) prefer an alkaline soil and a fast-draining potting mix. With few exceptions, they’re tough enough to stay outdoors year-round under the right conditions. General care: mostly sun, soak with water once in a while, keep relatively dry in winter, repeat. Easy-peasy!
These have a truly rustic feel -- exposure to the elements is a good thing! Hypertufa pots + plants = lovely gifts, too.
